SAMPLE · CHAPTER 1

"The 8% Annual Raise: When to Claim"

Claim late, and Social Security pays you a raise of 8% a year — guaranteed by law, up to age 70. Claim early, and the cut follows you forever. Vernon is 70 and lives in Boise, Idaho. He ran the loading dock at a lumber yard for 34 years, and he retired at 62 because his knees said so and because, frankly, he thought that was when you were supposed to take Social Security.

He filed at 62, and he's been getting his check for eight years now. He doesn't regret retiring. But he found out last year — from a buddy at the VA clinic, not from anyone official — that if he'd waited, his monthly check would be nearly three-quarters bigger today. Not a rumor. A rule. For every month you delay past your full retirement age, the government adds 2/3 of one percent to your monthly benefit — that's 8% a year — all the way to age 70, when the increases stop.

The rule in plain English. Social Security has a number called your full retirement age (FRA) — the age at which you get 100% of the benefit your earnings record built for you. For everyone born in 1960 or later, that's 67. Claim after your FRA, and you earn delayed retirement credits: 2/3 of 1% per month past FRA — 8% per year, all the way to age 70.

… every chapter continues like this — the rule, the dollars, the exact action, and the word-for-word phone script …

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions? Answered.

How do I receive the book?

The moment your payment completes, you get an email with the PDF download link. It opens on any phone, tablet, or computer — no special app needed. You can also print it at home or at a library.

I'm not very good with computers. Will I manage?

Yes. The book is a simple PDF — if you can open an email attachment, you can read this book. The text is large, the steps are numbered, and every phone number in the book connects you to a real person.

Is this a subscription? Will I be charged again?

No. It's a single one-time payment of $17.99. No subscription, no renewals, no upsells, no surprise charges — ever.

Is this affiliated with the government?

No. This is an independent guide and is not affiliated with the U.S. government or any agency. Every figure in the book is sourced from official government publications, and each chapter tells you where to verify it yourself.

I've already filed for Social Security. Is this still useful?

Very likely, yes. Only part of the book is about when to file. The rest covers spousal and survivor rules, Medicare premiums and appeals, prescription discounts, taxes, housing, food benefits, veterans benefits, and unclaimed money — most of which apply no matter when you filed.

How current is the information?

This is the 2026 U.S. Edition. Figures were verified against official sources in October 2026, including the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment announced October 14, 2026.

How do I pay? Is it secure?

Checkout is handled by Gumroad, a well-known secure payment platform. You can pay by card, and your payment details never touch this website.
